Turfunderground’s Top Five Places To Eat In Miami

Prime 112 on Miami Beach and Eric von Hofen

Call ahead for sure! Or eat at the bar.

If you are heading to Miami this Spring or Summer, I suggest stopping by any of these places on this list and you won’t be let down.  First of all don’t come to Miami tired, you will leave exhausted for sure, but bring your appetite. Also don’t think you are going to eat dinner at 6 pm, we eat after 9:30 pm down here and love it. Many restaurants open their doors after 7pm and fire up the stove around 8pm. Dinner in Miami on any day of the week is an experience. Remember that you want to eat great food, be seen, and people watch for sure. Miami has every dish and price point you can think of. Miami is truly an international city and just like NYC, it has so many places to eat and drink that you could go out to eat every meal every day for years and you will not eat at the same place twice. I have put this list together for you of the my favorite places that I take my guests from out of town to.

TurfUnderground’s Top Five List for Miami

1. Prime 112 in the Browns Hotel Miami Beach. Bring your camera for sure. This place is on their list also.
2. Joe’s Stone Crab.  This is not the chain in the midwest.  This place has been in Miami for over 98 years and serves hundreds of people every night.
3. Barton G. Out of the park food presentation and service.
4. Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink.  Located in the trendy Design District this place rocks out every night so call ahead.
5. STK in the Gansevoort South. Just like the STK in NYC, it’s a must see.  Great music, flowing drinks and kick ass steaks.

That should take care of you while you are here so you won’t starve to death. Enjoy and let me know if you check them out. Bring a fat wallet.

Jim Morrison is off the hook in Miami, Florida

Eric von Hofen at Jim Morrison's Grave in Paris , France
December 9, 2010- Today in Tallahassee, Florida- Jim Morrison was let off the hook for an indecent exposure conviction. The alleged exposure happened during a concert at a Miami auditorium in 1969. Jim, a native of Florida, was granted a pardon by Florida’s out going Gov. Charlie Crist. Clemency board member, Alex Sink, also the state’s CFO, said ” the decision to grant a pardon was recognition of Morrison’s artistic legacy and the his accomplishments had endured since his death.” I think they did it because they all did not get re elected and will be leaving office at the end of the year. I think I would have done the same. Jim is a walk in the park compared to what other rock stars did in the 80’s and 90’s. Someone should have just kept him alive and in the studio.

I think it is funny that tickets for the 1969 event were $6 in advance and $7 at the door. I just went to Roger Waters “The Wall” last month and my ticket was $175. The band thought they were going to perform for 6,000 people for a fee of $25,000. 10,600 people showed up and packed the concert hall. The show was not one of The Doors best performances. Jim was not singing well and he yelled obscene insults to the crowd. He stopped in the middle of songs making the crowd upset. Some how during all of this Morrison asked the crowd if they wanted to see his man hood. Police today say he should have been locked up that night but was not. Four days later Miami Police arrested Morrison and the rest was history. The judge sentenced him to six months of hard labor and Jim never served a day. He died at the age of 27 from a heart attack on July 3, 1971 in Paris and never had a chance to appeal his case. That’s why Gov. Christ is letting him off the hook.

I have been over to see Jim Morrison’s grave a few times in Paris and I can’t believe the amount of people that visit him every year. Each time I see people from around the world and from ages of 14 to 80. Many of them singing his songs and even crying. His work touched so many peoples lives and it was a shame he died so young. I can’t find any proof if Jim ever spent any time on the golf course. I would love to hear from you have any information of him ever being on the links. Check out my video of his grave site.

Close it down!

In many parts of the US, it’s that time of the year for golf courses to close up their doors for the winter. For some of these courses it might be forever. It was another tough year for business at local golf courses in northern Ohio. These golf courses have seen rounds of golf drop and memberships dry up. Ohio has been affected very hard by the results of Ford, GM, US Steel, BF Goodrich and BP closing down factories and laying off people. I tour this course and show you how a course in Ohio looks this time of the year.
